Hacia un tratado que prohíba la transferencia de armas en caso de violacion de los derechos humanos o humanitarios

MONSEÑOR CHULLIKATT ANTE LA ONU: UN TRATADO QUE PROHIBA LA TRANSFERENCIA DE ARMAS CUANDO SE VIOLAN LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS

”Es necesario adoptar un tratado que prohíba la transferencia de armas cuando este hecho acarrea violaciones de los derechos humanos o humanitarios”, ha dicho el arzobispo Francis Chullikatt, Observador Permanente de la Santa Sede ante las Naciones Unidas (NY) durante la Conferencia Final de la ONU sobre el Tratado del Comercio de Armas, en curso hasta el 28 de marzo en Nueva York.

En su intervención el nuncio instó a las delegaciones de los diversos estados a trabajar juntas de forma consensual para dar vida a un tratado histórico que controle el comercio internacional de armas y recordó que desde el inicio de las negociaciones la Santa Sede ha solicitado “"un Tratado sobre el comercio de armas fuerte, eficaz y creíble que tenga un impacto real y duradero en todos los pueblos que anhelan vivir en un mundo más seguro y protegido."

For the first time, the "Minister of Foreign affairs" of the Holy See speaks at the UN Human RIghts Council recalling the Church's commitment to the implementation of fundamental and universal Human Rights worldwide. In his statement, Mgr. Dominique Mamberti recalled the need for the States and people of good will to contribute to the common good by cooperating to the practical implementation of universal, interdependent and interrelated Human Rights. Professor Sergio Pinheiro, President of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria delivered an additional "oral update" of his report to the Human Rights Council. The update pointed violence and killings targeting people because of their belonging to religious or ethnic communities. Dominicans recalls their very firm position against any kind of sectarian violence and call all parties to respect civilians populations.
