Middle East : The diplomatic corps called to the Vatican

The Dominican Order joins the Pope's call to negociation to acheive peace in the region. In preparation for the day of fasting and prayer for peace and the vigil on Saturday with the Pope in St Peter's Square, the Secretary of State has scheduled a special briefing for all ambassadors accredited to the Holy See that will take place Thursday morning, 5 September.

Massive killing of civilians in Democratic Republic of Congo

Une enquête de l'ONU sur la situation des droits de l'homme dans le sud du Masisi dans la province du Nord-Kivu, République démocratique du Congo, a révélé qu'au moins 264 civils, dont 83 enfants, ont été arbitrairement exécutés par des groupes armés au cours de plus de 75 attaques de villages entre avril et septembre de cette année

Update on Human Rights in Syria at the United Nations

Professor Sergio Pinheiro, President of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria delivered an additional "oral update" of his report to the Human Rights Council. The update pointed violence and killings targeting people because of their belonging to religious or ethnic communities. Dominicans recalls their very firm position against any kind of sectarian violence and call all parties to respect civilians populations.
