The Dominican Order condemns violence against Christians

While a new attack has been perpetrated against a bus transporting Christian students and employees on the road between Hamdinya, the largest Christian town in the country and Mosul, the Dominican Order (Order of Preachers) calls the Iraqi authorities to take their security responsibilities.

The attack on Sunday, May 2, 2010 resulted in the death of one passenger and injuring 100 other. It comes after a series of targeted attacks against members of the Christian community of Iraq and its churches, particularly in the region of Nineveh (Mosul). The Christians, who constitutes the largest minority in the country, suffer since 2003, from side effects of the showdown between the main community in the country. Present in Iraq for several centuries, the Dominican Order calls Iraqi authorities to take all necessary measures to effectively protect the most vulnerable members of the Iraqi people and especially members of religious minorities of the country.
