The year 2002 has been an eventful one for Dominicans for Justice and Peace at the United Nations. The year began on a bright note when the UN Committee on NGOs recommended in January that Dominicans for Justice and Peace be granted ECOSOC Special Consultative Status at the United Nations. By obtaining Special consultative status at the United Nations, Dominicans for Justice and Peace, as a distinct NGO, enters into a different working relationship with the United Nations. Consequently, Dominicans for Justice and Peace intervenes in its own name in UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) and its various subsidiary bodies such as the UN Commission on Human Rights. Furthermore, we rejoice that Dominican Leadership Conference also received ECOSOC Special Consultative Status at the UN in 2002.
