The prominent Q’eqchi indigenous leader and human rights activist Bernardo Caal Xol has been released from jail on March 24th, 2022 in Guatemala after spending over three and a half years in prison. We have denounced at the United Nations his arbitrary detention together with various civil society partners. The UN was deeply concerned about the incarceration and criminalization of Mr Caal Xol by the Guatemalan Government. This news fills us with hope.
