Fr. Aniedi’s visit to the UN in Vienna

Fr Aniedi Okure OP travelled to Vienna on 4 -12 December to participate on behalf of UNOP to the Thematic Discussions of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) and the reconvened sessions of the CND, and of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).

During the reconvened session of the CCPCJ, he delivered a statement highlighting the importance of multi-stakeholder approaches in combating organised crime, especially around decarbonisation efforts.

Marking the first time that he visited Vienna, he took this opportunity to consult with a large number of UNOP’s local partners, within and outside of the Order. He consulted with the provincial of the South German and Austrian Province, Fr Thomas Brogl OP, met with the local Dominican brothers and a group of Nigerian priests working in pastoral care for the Archdiocese of Vienna.

Furthermore, Fr Aniedi met with the representative of the Holy See to the International Organisations, Mgr Urbańczyk, for an amicable exchange of ideas, and members of the Executive Board of the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. He also successfully led the event on the Dominican Month for Peace, committed to the Amazon, from Vienna.
