Dominicans for Justice and Peace (UNOP) actively participated in the annual assembly of the International Dominican Justice and Peace Commission (IDCJP), which took place in Nairobi from October 2 to 5.
This event provided a valuable opportunity for UNOP to engage with the dedicated Advocacy Team responsible for representing the Dominican Family at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In 2018, UNOP was granted Accreditation as an observer to the UNEP, enabling the organisation to take part in UN discussions.
As a notable highlight, the Advocacy Team played an integral role in the UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives meeting on October 5, where significant attention was given to the ongoing negotiations concerning the Treaty on Plastic Pollution.
During these discussions, Fr. Aniedi delivered an oral statement, underscoring the vital role of UNEP in addressing the global challenge of plastic pollution. His words emphasised the urgency of addressing this critical issue, underlining the significance of the UNEP discussions in this context.
The visit also served as an opportunity to strategise UNOP’s advocacy plan for the upcoming year, with the participation at UNEA 6 identified as one of the key activities for 2024.
